In this lesson we’ll talk about possessive pronouns and adjectives in italian

I possessivi servono per indicare a chi appartiene una persona, un animale o una cosa.

Esempio : La tua giacca è rossa

Tua indica che la giacca appartiene a te, tu sei il proprietario della giacca.

 

 

 

Possessive pronouns and adjectives are used  to indicate the ownership of a person, animal or thing.

 

 

Example : Your jacket is red

Tua indicates that the jacket belongs to you

I possessivi possono essere – Possessives can be :

• Aggettivi possessivi , quando accompagnano il nome   :
•  Possessive adjectives, when they accompany the noun

⇒ il mio orologio, la tua bicicletta, il suo ufficio, la nostra scuola,

la vostra insegnante, il loro alloggio

⇒ my watch, your bike, your office, our school,your teacher, their accommodation

 

• Pronomi possessivi   quando il nome non c’è, perché il pronome sta al posto del nome :
• Possessive pronouns when  there isn’t the noun , because the pronoun is used in the place of the noun:

⇒ Questo ombrello giallo  è di Giovanna,  il mio * invece è blu.

*( il mio significa : il mio ombrello )   

This is Giovanna’s yellow umbrella, mine* is blue.

*( mine means : my umbrella )

• Davanti ai pronomi possessivi si mette sempre l’articolo :

• Before possessive pronouns always put the article

⇒ Che macchina prendiamo ? La mia ?  ⇒ What car we take? Mine ?

⇒ Io ho le mani calde, ma le tue sono fredde.  ⇒ My hands are warm, but yours are cold

⇒ Questa è la sua. ⇒ This is hers

 

• Davanti agli aggettivi possessivi

• Before possessive adjectives

1) con i nomi che non indicano una parentela, l’articolo  si mette sempre :

1) with nouns that don’t indicate a kin, always put the article

 ⇒ Il suo lavoro ⇒ His job

⇒ La nostra amicizia  ⇒ Our friendship

⇒ I miei capelli ⇒ My hair

2) L’articolo non si mette se davanti all’aggettivo possessivo troviamo nomi di parentela al singolare :

2) No articles before  possessive adjectives, if we find names of kinship at the singular

⇒ Mia sorella  ⇒ My sister

⇒Tua cugina  ⇒ My cousin

⇒Suo zio  ⇒ My uncle

3) L’articolo si mette se l’aggettivo possessivo è riferito ad un nome di parentela al plurale

3) Put the  articles before  possessive adjectives, if we find names of kinship at the plural

⇒ Le mie sorelle  ⇒ My sisters

⇒ Le tue cugine  ⇒ My cousins

⇒ I suoi zii  ⇒ My uncles

4) L’articolo  si mette sempre con l’aggettivo possessivo LORO

4) Always put the article with the possessive adjective LORO

⇒ Il loro zio ⇒ Their uncle,

⇒ La loro mamma ⇒ Their mother

⇒ I loro nonni ⇒ Their grandparents

⇒ Le loro sorelle ⇒ Their sisters
